Lucid Motors seemed to have largely resolved its initial quality struggles with the Gravity SUV’s hardware and software, but the company is not out of the woods yet: It just issued a recall for more than 4,000 Gravity SUVs after discovering a problem with the seat belts.
The company told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that, during unrelated safety testing in January, it discovered some of the anchors for the SUV’s second-row seat belts were not properly welded. This increases the risk that the seat belts would not hold passengers during a collision.
Lucid Motors said the problem is the result of its seat supplier changing its manufacturing process “without notice to or approval by Lucid.” The supplier has reverted to Lucid Motors’ original design specification, and only Gravity SUVs made before February 14, 2026 are affected.
The automaker says it will have to inspect all Gravity SUVs affected by the recall, and either install a bracket or a whole new seat, depending on the quality of the weld.
