Candidates to become the next head of the United Nations vowed on Wednesday to revitalise the troubled organisation through reform, while upholding its core principles of peacekeeping and development. Four candidates are vying to succeed Antonio Guterres as UN secretary-general from the start of next year. The winner will face the daunting task of restoring the credibility of an organisation in crisis, whose global influence has significantly declined in recent years.
