“Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum...” Captain Jack Sparrow would have approved of Johnny Depp’s move into spirits.

Celebrities launching liquor brands has become a popular move for artists looking to expand their empire.

Now, Johnny Depp is joining the likes of Beyoncé (and her SirDavis Whisky), Margot Robbie (Papa Salt Coastal gin), Brad Pitt (The Gardener Gin), Ryan Reynolds (Aviation Gin), George Clooney (Casamigos Tequila) and countless others with his brand of... you guessed it... rum.

Indeed, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor has entered the spirits industry with a Caribbean rum brand called Three Hearts.

Launched with longtime friend Bobby DeLeon, Three Hearts is inspired by Depp’s decades-long connection to the Caribbean.

“Rum holds the history of the islands,” said Depp. “It’s shaped by the hands of the people who grow the cane, ferment the spirit and age it over time.”

He didn’t repeat his line “Why is all the rum gone??” from the Pirates franchise, but that’s probably because there’s plenty to go around now...

Beyond putting his name to the spirit, the bottle itself has been designed by Depp. He sketched the shape and its illustrations, which feature symbolism from the 62-year-old actor’s tattoos, as well as personal tributes.

The bottle is embossed with a skull, a lightning bolt, and three hearts which represent his ex-wife Vanessa Paradis and his two children Lily-Rose Depp and Jack Depp.

The top of the bottle features a bracelet-style charm and the base of the bottle features the brand’s motto: “No Fear. No Malice. No Envy.”

That’s the spirit. (Sorry)

But what does Three Hearts Rum taste like?

In an interview with Forbes, DeLeon described the rum as sticky toffee in flavour with aromas of wood, spices, candied orange and vanilla.

Three Hearts Rum is crafted in a distillery in the Dominican Republic, which aged the liquid in ex-bourbon barrels for five years and re-casked it for two more years in former cognac barrels.
