Republicans weigh midterms strategy, pour money into campaigns even in red states

US President Donald Trump said Tuesday Republicans face an equally difficult fight to retain control of the House of Representatives and the Senate in November's midterm elections, despite forecasts suggesting a considerably tougher contest in the House. Yet the party is pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into defending congressional and state-level seats once considered safely red. In some states, notably North Carolina and Georgia, they appear to be scaling back their ambitions – shifting resources to other Republican strongholds where Democrats are mounting unexpected challenges, as FRANCE 24's International Affairs Commentator Douglas Herbert explains.
