Eamonn Holmes's son has said his father is "doing OK" after having a stroke.

"We're taking it one step at a time," Declan Holmes said, adding his family was focused on "keeping things steady around" the 66-year-old GB News presenter.

The news channel released a statement on Saturday, saying Holmes was in hospital after suffering a stroke, having been taken ill last week. It said he was "responding well to treatment".

And posting on his Instagram on Sunday, Eamonn Holmes thanked his followers for their "many many good wishes," saying they gave him strength.

Veteran broadcaster Holmes joined GB News in 2022 to present its breakfast programme, having previously fronted shows for Sky News and ITV.

Eamonn Holmes' Instagram post, uploaded on Sunday afternoon, features a picture of his two young granddaughters, one of which is holding a sign reading "get well soom [sic]".

"As my beautiful granddaughters put it so well - I will do my best to get well SOOM" [sic], the presenter said.

In Declan Holmes' statement, also shared on Instagram, he said what happened to his father had come "as a real shock" and he thanked well-wishers for sending messages of support.

"We'd really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it [sic], and what lies ahead, but thank you again for for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family," he said.

The message was posted alongside an image of him with his arm around his father's shoulder.

On Saturday, the channel's chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos described Holmes as a "loved member of the GB News family" and said "we're with him every step of the way as he recovers".

Holmes, originally from Northern Ireland, has previously spoken about various health issues, including spinal surgery, a double hip replacement, and his struggles walking and using a mobility scooter.

A well-known face on breakfast TV, Holmes has held a number of broadcasting roles throughout his career, which spans decades.

Before moving to GB News, he was part of ITV's This Morning team, often presenting alongside Ruth Langsford who he married in 2010.

The pair announced their separation in 2024, with a spokesperson saying "their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing".

A stroke occurs when blood stops flowing to part of the brain, according to NHS guidance.

Possible symptoms include face weakness, where one side of the face might droop, arm weakness and speech problems.
